Neuropsychologists often provide consultation with other medical and mental health professionals to achieve the best results for patients, in addition to providing direct feedback to clients.

 

For best client care, each assessment usually includes:

• Assessment

• Conceptualization

• Recommendations

• Feedback

• Consultation with other medical and/or mental health providers who are working with the client (e.g., neurologist, primary care physician, therapist, etc.).

Assessments are provided to aid in the diagnosis, management, and treatment planning for the following conditions:

• Traumatic brain injury (TBI)

• Stroke

• Neurodegenerative disorders (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Lewy body disease, Pick’s disease, corticobasal degeneration, progressive supranuclear palsy, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, etc.)

• Cancer-related cognitive impairment

• Toxic exposures

• Anoxia or hypoxia

• HIV encephalopathy

• Chronic substance abuse

• Multiple sclerosis (MS)

• Leukoencephalopathy

• Seizure disorders

• Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adults

Psychological assessment is used to understand a person’s personality characteristics, behaviors, thought processes, and whether they have symptoms or meet diagnostic criteria for any psychological disorders.

 

Psychological assessment can help diagnose psychological disorders, suggest treatment(s), and monitor treatment effectiveness.
